How to add and review your first client and alert

Pascal Transactions helps you monitor financial activity by comparing client and transaction data with your organisation’s configured alert rules. The main workflow consists of creating a client, adding the client’s bank accounts and transactions, reviewing triggered alerts and documenting the outcome of your investigation.

Providing complete client information improves the quality of Pascal’s risk calculations and helps produce more relevant alerts.

It is possible to import clients, bank accounts and transactions via import files or via the API of Pascal. For this workflow these parts are explained in a manual proces.

1. Create a client

You can create a client from the Home page or the Clients page.

  1. Click New client.
  2. Enter the Client name, or select an existing client.
  3. Optionally, enter a Description.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select the client type:
    • Person
    • Business
  6. Complete the client information.
For a Person, you can provide information such as:
    • Address
    • Email address
    • Phone number
    • Date of birth
    • Gender
    • Profession
    • Nationalities
    • Account creation date
    • Risk indicators
  7. For a Business, you can provide information such as:
    • Address
    • Email address
    • Phone number
    • Date of incorporation
    • Country
    • SIC codes
    • Account creation date
    • Risk indicators
  8. Click Next.

    Add the client’s bank accounts

    1. Click Add bank account.
    2. Enter the following account information:
      • Account name
      • Bank account
      • SWIFT code
      • Bank
      • Currency
      • Account type
    3. Confirm whether the account should be Active.
    4. Click Add bank account.
    5. Repeat the process to add additional accounts.
    6. To correct an account before continuing, click its Pencil icon.
    7. Click Next after all relevant accounts have been added.

    Assign responsibility for the client

    1. Select an Assignee from the dropdown.
    2. Optionally, add one or more Collaborators.
    3. Complete the client creation process.

The assignee and collaborators help establish who is responsible for managing the client and reviewing relevant activity.

    2: Add transactions

After the client and their bank accounts have been created, you can add transactions manually or import multiple transactions from a file.

    Import multiple transactions

    1. Open the client’s overview page and scroll down to the Transactions card.
    2. Click Add transactions
    3. Select Import from file.
    4. Download an example file in one of the supported formats:
      • CSV
      • Excel
      • JSON
    5. Drag and drop the import file or click to upload.

If an imported transaction has an ID that already exists, Pascal skips that transaction. When no ID is provided, Pascal generates a unique ID automatically.

Pascal matches imported transactions with bank accounts already registered in the system. Transactions belonging to an unknown bank account are not displayed until that bank account has been created. Only users with the Owner or Admin role can import transactions from a file.

    3: Review triggered alerts

Pascal creates an alert when client or transaction activity meets the conditions configured in the Alert Builder.

    Alerts can be reviewed from:

    • The Home page
    • The Alerts card in a client's overview page
    • The Alerts page

The Alerts page provides the most complete overview. It shows in a table:

    • When the alert was created
    • A description of why it was triggered
    • The assignee of the alert
    • The current status of the alert
    • The associated client of the alert
    • The priority of the alert

Use the available filters to narrow the list by criteria such as alert name, status, priority, assignee, client or creation date.

    To review an alert:

    1. On the Alerts page, open an alert with the status Open and an alert which is either Unassigned or assigned to yourself.
    2. The new window shows more details on the triggered alert.

      • In the top left, below the title of the alert, the reason the alert triggered is shown.
      • Next to the alert title and reason, the time the alert triggered and the time range of the alert are shown. Next to this information the priority, details of the audit and assignee are shown.
      • In the table below, all transactions of the client are shown. All transactions related to the alert are highlighted in blue. You can quickly navigate to all transactions related to the alert by selecting the transaction ID in the left section below Related transactions.
    3. Review the transactions related to the alert.

    Apply a judgement

    1. Review the transactions related to the alert. After reviewing the transactions, scroll down to add a Judgement to the alert.

      • Select False positive when the alert has been investigated and it is determined that the activity is legitimate, consistent with the customer's known profile and expected behavior, and there are no reasonable grounds to suspect money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, or any other financial crime.
The reason for determining the alert as a false positive must be documented in the Add your explanation notes section. The Save button, will then close the alert.
      • Select Suspicious when the alert has been investigated and there are reasonable grounds to suspect that the activity may be related to money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, or another financial crime.
The reason for determining the alert as suspicious must be documented in the Add your explanation notes section. The Save button, will then generate a report of the alert to escalate the suspicious event.
      • Select Under investigation when the alert requires additional review before a final determination can be made. This status should be used when further analysis, information, or supporting documentation is needed to assess whether the activity is legitimate or suspicious. The details of the investigation must be documented in the Add your explanation notes section until the investigation is completed and the alert can be classified as either False positive or Suspicious.
      • Select Escalated when the alert should be further reviewed by another user. The reason for the escalation and information of the investigation until now must be documented in the Add your explanation notes section.
    2. Continue the investigation into the alert. Updates and new information should be added to the Judgement of the alert in the Add your explanation notes section and a file can be added via the Add attachment option. The investigation is completed when the alert is classified as either False positive or Suspicious.
