# How to add your own data to Pascal

Besides the provided datasets in Pascal, you can also add your own data. In circumstances where your organisation has their own dataset that is complementary to the Pascal datasets the option is available to add these to your environment. Only owners and admins can add these entities, but all users will be able to find them in their searches.

*If this feature is not available for you, please check the products active and available in your subscription. A user with the role **Admin** or **Owner** can do this via the **Subscription** page.*

You can add a new list into one of the following categories: **Sanctions**, **Enforcements** or **PEPs**. To do this, follow the below steps:

1. Click on your initials in the top right corner.
2. Select **Settings** in the new menu.
3. Navigate to the **Data directory** page in the **Screening** section.
4. Press the **New database** button.
5. Give the database a name and select the **Screening category** the list will be available in and press **Create**.
6. Now that your new list is present in the overview, click on the row to view it in detail.
7. Press the **Import** button to import multiple entries into the list. Alternatively, you can add one entry by selecting the **Add entry** option.
8. In the **Import** overview, you can download an example **CSV** or **Excel** file. When you have your entries in an accepted file format, you can press **click to upload** or drag the file to that section.
9. In the new overview, review the fields found in your file, select which fields to import, and map them to the correct Pascal properties. For more information about the mapping screen and the available properties, see **Review the property mapping** below.
10. Press **Next** when the chosen fields and mapped properties are correct.
11. A new popup will inquire what to do with already existing entries. Here, you can choose to **Update existing entries** and what information should be identical between entries to deem them as the same entry. Press **Import** to complete the import.

### Review the property mapping

After uploading your file, Pascal displays a new screen showing the properties found in the file. Pascal automatically attempts to match each file property to the corresponding property in Pascal.

Review the mappings before continuing with the import to make sure Pascal has recognised the properties correctly.

The table contains the following columns:

- **Import** – Select whether the property should be imported. Clear the checkbox if you want Pascal to ignore this property.
- **File property name** – Shows the property name found in the uploaded file.
- **Pascal property name** – Shows the Pascal property that the file property is mapped to. Use the dropdown to select a different Pascal property if the automatic mapping is incorrect.
- **Preview** – Shows a preview of the data found for the property.
- **Type** – Shows the data type of the selected Pascal property.

Check each row to make sure the file property is mapped to the correct Pascal property. If Pascal has not recognised a property correctly, use the **Pascal property name** dropdown to select the correct property.

If you do not want to import a property, clear its **Import** checkbox. Pascal will ignore that property during the import.

#### Available property mappings

#### Property mapping notes

Keep the following in mind when preparing and mapping your file:

- Pascal validates the uploaded properties before the import can continue. If a value is missing or invalid, Pascal marks the affected row with a red validation error. Review and correct the value in your file, or clear the **Import** checkbox for that row if you do not want to import that property.
- Country properties can contain either the full country name or an ISO country code.
- Properties that can occur multiple times use a numbered structure. For example, `alias_1_name` can be extended with `alias_2_name`, `alias_3_name`, and so on. Add these properties directly to the file before uploading it to Pascal.
- Properties that can occur multiple times use a numbered structure. For example, `alias_1_name` can be extended with `alias_2_name`, `alias_3_name`, and so on. The same pattern applies to other repeatable property groups, such as contacts, documents, identifiers, and connections.
- Related properties, such as `contact_1_type` and `contact_1_value`, are handled independently. If information is missing or invalid, Pascal identifies the affected property during validation.
- Before completing the import, Pascal displays a dialog where you can configure how existing entries should be handled. You can choose whether to update existing entries, select the fields Pascal should use to identify duplicate records, and decide how empty fields should be handled when updating an existing entry: keep the existing value or overwrite it.
